This is the website for the UK Meningococcal Carriage Study 4

We are asking you to join our research project trying to find out why a germ called the meningococcus sometimes causes meningitis and blood poisoning. Teenagers aged 15-19 years in your area are being asked to take part by local researchers with expertise in meningococcal research. Nationally about 18,000 students will be involved.

UKMenCar4 study wins "Study of the Year"
The UKMenCar4 meningococcal carriage study in teenagers, funded by the Wellcome Trust, was given a special award, “Study Of The Year” at the Greater Manchester Clinical Research Awards 2015 annual ceremony at the Edwardian Radisson hotel, Manchester on 4th November.  The special award, sponsored by the Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network, was for the rapid and efficient enrolment of students beyond the initial target number by Central Manchester NIHR CRN, the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NIHR CRN and the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.  The Public Health England Meningococcal Reference Unit provided microbiological to support all three centres.  Professor Martin Maiden, the principle investigator for the study is delighted that the hard work of all the teams has been recognised in this way.  It is a fantastic achievement.  He would like to acknowledge the invaluable contribution made by the schools, colleges and participants without whom this study could not have happened.  Very many congratulations to everyone. https://www.crn.nihr.ac.uk/news/three-greater-manchester-trusts-successfully-support-a-meningitis-study/?h=36
